Exploding for 15 goals this weekend, the Sherbrooke Phoenix have taken a 2-0 series lead vs rival Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Despite missing key players due to injury, the Phoenix didn’t skip a beat offensively this weekend. In Game 1 on Friday night, the home team picked up a 7-3 win in front of a soldout crowd.

Phoenix head coach and general manager Stéphane Julien said Game 1 was exactly how he wanted his team to handle the first game in the rivalry series.

“Our special teams did a great job scoring when needed and also shutting them down on the penalty kill,” he said. “Special teams were the difference tonight.”

In Game 1, Jacob Melanson and Israel Mianscum each scored twice for the Phoenix. Milo Roelens, David Spacek and Joshua Roy also found the back of the net for the Phoenix.

The following night, the Phoenix continued to display their offensive firepower as they picked up an 8-1 victory. Joshua Roy led all skaters with a six-point night, including a third period hattrick. He now leads all players in the QMJHL playoffs with 18 points.
