Police watching snowmobile trails

Record Staff – About five dozen Sûreté du Québec officers carried out a surveillance operation on recreational and tourist trails over the weekend in Estrie, Center-du-Québec and Montérégie. According to a report presented by the Sûreté du Québec, 950 snowmobile and ATV drivers were stopped and nearly 70 tickets were issued for various offenses such as non-compliance with the speed limit. Also, 90 warnings were distributed and one man was arrested, as police said they had reason to believe he was driving his vehicle impaired by alcohol. The operation is part of a series of interventions carried out in collaboration with the Federation of Snowmobile Clubs of Quebec. See full story in the Thursday, Feb. 21 edition of The Record.
