Province, region update weekend Covid numbers

The Province of Quebec reported 1,793 covid-related hospitalizations on Monday, 156 more than there were on Friday of last week. Only 44 per cent of that total, or 766 cases, were in hospital directly because of the virus itself.

There were 69 people in the province’s intensive care wards, a decrease from numbers not reported by public health on Sunday, but up seven from where they stood at the end of last week. In the case of ICU patients with COVID, 69 per cent, or 46 people, were in hospital because of the virus.

The province also recorded 32 new Covid-related deaths over the weekend, six of which were added on Monday. The total number of people considered to have died from the virus in the province since the start of the pandemic is now at 14,544.
In the Eastern Townships there were 123 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Monday, with two in intensive care.

The region reported no new deaths linked to the virus from Friday to Monday, keeping the regional total at 554.
