Provincial government injects $ 47M into youth protection services to eliminate waiting lists

Record Staff –  On Thursday Lionel Carmant, Minister of Health and Social Services announced $47 million in funding to help eliminate waiting lists and consolidate youth protection services. The funding will be used to hire nearly 400 new resources and ease the workload of those already on the ground.
For the Estrie region, this sum of $ 4,742,000 will be used to add 40 new youth protection workers who will be able to respond to the request of the 481 children currently awaiting assessment. This investment will help eliminate waiting lists at the reporting and enforcement stage and consolidate youth protection services to adequately meet needs based on the growing volume of requests.
