Although numbers at the end of last week might have led some to expect that the next update from Quebec’s public health department would see the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 fall below 1,000, Monday’s data showed an increase of 24 instead. According to the health ministry’s daily “dashboard” of information on the virus, 33 per cent of the 1,025 people in hospital with Covid were there because of the virus.
The number of people in intensive care with Covid increased by one, to 20, about 53 per cent of whom were so-called primary cases.
The number of Covid-related deaths recorded in the province since the start of the pandemic increased by eight, to 15,489.
There was no information available about the number of healthcare workers absent for Covid-related reasons.
The Eastern Townships reported another decrease of three in the number of hospitalizations with COVID-19, bringing the total to 73. That number continued to include no intensive care patients. There was also no change to the local total of covid-related deaths, keeping it at 621.
