By Emilie Hackett, Special to the Record – As announced by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), children will have to be seated in adapted car seats until they are 145 centimetres (57 inches) tall or turn nine years old as of Thursday, April 18, 2019. Drivers who do not follow this new law could find themselves receiving a fine between $80 and $100 and could have three demerit points added to their driving record. The previous regulation only required for adapted child car seats for children who measured less than 63 centimetres (25 inches) in a seated position.
