Record Staff

In an effort to address racism in our society in a concrete way, Tuesday Quebec Premier François Legault announced the creation of an Action Group Against Racism (groupe d’action contre le racism-GACR).
The group’s mandate will be to develop a series of effective actions to combat racism, in particular by identifying priority areas for action (public security, justice, schools, housing, employment, etc.). The measures will have to take into account the particular realities experienced by persons from visible minorities and Aboriginal communities. Recommendations will have to be tabled as early as the fall of 2020, so that lasting changes can be implemented as quickly as possible.
The action group will be co-chaired by Lionel Carmant, Minister of Health and Social Services, and Nadine Girault, Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie. In addition to the two co-chairs, it will be made up of the following people:
Ms. Sylvie D’Amours, Minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs;
Mr. Denis Lamothe, MNA for Ungava and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs;
Mr. Ian Lafrenière, MNA for Vachon and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Public Safety;
Mr. Christopher Skeete, M.P. for Sainte-Rose and Parliamentary Assistant to the Prime Minister for Relations with English-speaking Quebecers;
Ms. Isabelle Lecours, MNA for Lotbinière-Frontenac.
