Quebec increases investment for women’s shelters to alleviate overcapacity issues

La Méridienne is one of many women’s shelters, housing domestic violence victims and their children, currently suffering from overcapacity and a lack of funding, however the Quebec government is trying to remedy the situation.
Annie Pilon, assistant director at La Méridienne in Weedon, was pleased to discover that the shelter would be able to increase its capacity from 10 to 12 spaces, thanks to a $13.2 million investment from the provincial government.
“The government granted a new investment so that shelters can continue offering their services and create more places because there is a need for shelters right now in Quebec, we’ve been at overcapacity here at La Meridienne for a number of years,” said Pilon.
