Quebec police watchdog investigates motorcycle accident in Lingwick

A fatal accident on Route 257 in Lingwick involving a 32-year-old motorcyclist is being investigated by the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), Quebec’s police watchdog.
The SQ originally sent out a press release early Wednesday morning stating officers were called to Route 257 at around 5:45 a.m. regarding a collision between a motorcyclist and a deer.
However, the BEI took on the investigation when it was discovered the motorcyclist had been involved in a high-speed pursuit with the SQ earlier that night.
SQ spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel told The Record on Wednesday afternoon that at this point, it is unclear whether any animal was involved in the accident.
According to the BEI’s preliminary report, SQ officers encountered the motorcyclist at around 1:30 a.m. and noticed his taillight was not working.
Officers followed the rider for several minutes before attempting to intercept. The BEI report said that once the police turned on their vehicle’s flashing lights, the motorcyclist accelerated.
