Quebec to increase its capacity to sequence  for new variants

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, provided an update yesterday on the situation of COVID-19 in Quebec.
The number of hospitalizations, which has been declining in recent weeks, is now below 900. That decrease is also reflected in the number of hospital activities that have now resumed. Last week, 34 per cent of surgeries were postponed, while this percentage has dropped to 27 per cent this week.
This downward trend reflects the population’s efforts. However, the situation remains fragile, especially with the arrival of new variants. To address the situation, the province is increasing its sequencing capacity for new variants.
