Quebec’s toothbrushing program an issue for teachers’ unions

Quebec’s teachers’ unions have a bone to pick with the provincial government after it was announced that the supervised toothbrushing program with fluoridated toothpaste developed in 2017 will gradually make its way into elementary schools and daycares.
According to Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers (QPAT) President Heidi Yetman, this will only present a logistical nightmare for school personnel and add more work on top of an already heavy workload for elementary school teachers. Yetman only recently learned about it.
“Now that the pandemic is over they’re moving ahead with this program and what kind of blows my mind is that there was no consultation or collaboration with unions or teachers or anybody, it just kind of came out of nowhere. I found out about it through the media,” she said.
