RCMP arrests Hydro-Québec employee for espionage

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) arrested 35-year-old Hydro-Québec employee Yuesheng Wang at his home in Candiac Monday morning on espionage charges.
Wang allegedly obtained trade secrets to benefit the People’s Republic of China and to the detriment of Canada’s economic interests. He will appear at the Longueuil courthouse Tuesday. He faces four charges under the Security of Information Act and the Criminal Code of Canada.
The Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) opened an investigation into Wang’s activities in August 2022 after Hydro-Québec’s corporate security branch filed a complaint to the RCMP. This is reportedly the first time this charge has been laid in Canada.
