Refreshments for Razia

The Grade 1 students at Knowlton Academy Elementary School are spending afternoon recess this week selling lemonade and popcorn to raise funds to sponsor four girls studying in Afghanistan through the Razia’s Ray of Hope Foundation.
The foundation is named after humanitarian Razia Jan, an Afghan native, and provides Afghan girls and young women with safe learning environments to help them build bright futures for themselves and their communities.
“We call them our Razia girls, and we have been paying for their school fees since they were in kindergarten,” explained Mylene Bessette, a teacher at Knowlton Academy.
Previous fundraisers at the school have included selling sundays, popcorn and bird feeders.
The first graders opted for a lemonade stand with popcorn ($1 each), set up during afternoon recess.
According to Bessette, the school has already raised more than enough money for the four girls they sponsor, so extra money this year will be directed to support children in Ukraine.
