The 20 or so socio-economic, community, and institutional partners that make up the Concertation estrienne contre la maltraitance des personnes aînées (coalition against elder abuse) joined forces Monday to denounce the occurrence of elder abuse. Throughout 2018, they will work together to take concrete action against elder abuse in the region. The group is beginning with an awareness campaign through theatre performances, which will be offered in June in the region. A training program, This isn’t right, will also be implemented to help participants recognize the signs of elder abuse and encourage them to pose simple and practical gestures to help with respect. A well-being committee is also planned to develop and disseminate tools of good practice, including the Charter of Well-being, which has already been adopted by several municipalities in the Eastern Townships.
