Hockey Sherbrooke General Manager Stéphane Dion was just as shocked as everyone when he discovered Hockey Canada had for years been dipping into a special reserve fund using registration fees from across the country to settle sexual assault claims.
The national hockey organization has come under fire lately with two sexual assault allegations resurfacing after several years. Hockey Canada was already being scrutinized for its handling of an alleged sexual assault involving eight former Canadian Hockey League players in 2018.
And on Thursday, it was revealed that an investigation has opened to look into sexual assault allegations involving Canadian players on the 2003 World Junior hockey team in Halifax. Dion told The Record that he felt deceived by Hockey Canada. He never knew about the slush fund.
