The Centre d’action bénévole (CAB) de Sutton, the town’s volunteer centre, held a public presentation in both French and English on Friday to share information about the Olivet House renovation project, which finally began construction on Aug. 8.
The project has been delayed for three years, according to Janna Hubacek, CAB project manager for the Olivet House, also known as the Maison des generations. The project will transform the Olivet Church into a community space for Sutton and Abercorn residents.
“To just see the work now finally coming through it’s really a miracle. We’ve been working on this for like three years, so to see this, it seems so real and going forward people will understand what we’re trying to do more and it draws attention to the project,” Hubacek said.
The CAB was operating out of the John Sleeth Community and Cultural Centre. But the volunteer organization was informed by the town that they had to evacuate due to the building’s structural integrity and possible contamination. They were in need of a new home.
