Residents in the Richmond area are saddened to learn of the sudden death of Marc-André Martel over the holiday weekend.
No mayor served the Town of Richmond longer than Marc-André Martel who was first elected in 1986 and remained in the post until his retirement in 2017, a span of 31 years during which he was repeatedly returned by acclamation.
His road to the mayor’s chair was relatively short—he never served, as is commonly the case, a term as councillor—nor did he move geographically far from Val-des-Sources (known as Asbestos at the time) where he was born and raised.
