IRIS Estrie shuts down for the week

With a threat of permanent closure on the horizon due to a lack of consistent government funding, IRIS Estrie has been forced to shut down its operations until May 2.

The organization, which provides prevention services for sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBBIs), HIV, and hepatitis, is using this week to run an awareness campaign to educate the general public about the essential health care services it offers to the region.

IRIS Estrie posted several infographics on its Facebook page, highlighting what kind of impact a week-long shut down will have on the population who use the organization’s health services on a weekly basis. They also showcase photos and testimonials from some of their clientele.

According to a press release, IRIS Estrie has already had to terminate its SuPAIR Aidant component, and 14 STBBI prevention seminars in schools have been cancelled. The organization is calling on the Health Ministry and CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS for help.
