The arena in Saint-Denis-de-Brompton will be closed for repairs following the announcement of safety issues in need of immediate attention.
“The problem we’re facing is condensation that got into the walls, creating mould, and causing ice to fall from the ceiling. We need to completely change the refrigeration system and our benches,” said communications director Maryse Mathieu.
Roxanne Rouleau, director of culture, recreation and community life, also said, “we need to decontaminate the mould in the locker rooms and change the boards in the rink as well.”
Traces of the issue were first noticed by staff in spring, though it was only the more recent inspection by an engineering firm which confirmed the need for major repairs.
