This coming Saturday, Aug. 30, the community at Saint-Patrick’s Parish in Sherbrooke will be saying a final farewell to their long-time priest, Father Pierre Doyon, following his death earlier this month.
In a statement sent to The Record via email, Steve Lemay, Vicar General of the Sherbrooke Archdiocese, described Doyon as a “a generous servant” of the church who was appreciated by his community.
“Father Doyon’s great stability in his assignments testifies to the appreciation of the people he served during all these years,” Lemay wrote, noting that in addition to the 29 years he served as parish priest at Saint-Patrick’s, Doyon also worked as a teacher at the Séminaire de Sherbrooke from the time of his ordination in 1958 to 1972, and then as a chaplain in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1972 to 1993. The Vicar General also made a point of highlighting that Doyon made the decision to step back from his work at the church only this past spring, at the age of 88.
