Pierre Véronneau, coordinator of Sauvons le manège, the advocacy group fighting for the preservation and modernization of Sherbrooke’s two armoury buildings, told media Tuesday afternoon that the group is not convinced that the futures of the Colonel-Gaetan-Cote or William armouries are secure following a meeting with representatives of the Department of National Defence last week. Seated alongside fellow members Jean-Luc Bombardier and Wilfred Morin, Véronneau said that there is no indication that the government is taking the cultural or human heritage of the two spaces into account, and he expressed deep frustration with the fact that renovation and restoration work on the two structures is expected to take many more years, if it happens at all.
