The Sawyerville Baptist Church was founded in 1822, and throughout the upcoming weekend, Sept. 3 and 4, Quebecers, churchgoers and history buffs are invited to take part in commemorating the historic church and celebrate its 200th anniversary milestone.
Following an organizational meeting on Wednesday, Sawyerville Baptist Church Pastor Michel Houle told The Record that the details of the event have been officially finalized. The church will run several activities, including a bus tour for both English- and French-speaking participants.
“It’s a blessing to celebrate a church of 200 years. How much longer will it be there? We’re not sure. Rural churches are becoming a little extinct. You have the bigger churches in the cities. In small towns, kids move away, get a job in the city and they’re gone,” Houle shared.
