School board wants educators prioritized for Covid vaccination

The Eastern Townships School Board (ETSB) adopted a resolution during its January meeting last week to hold the provincial government to its promise to prioritize the vaccination of staff in the education sector.
“When we began this process, education workers were not significantly prioritized,” explained ETSB chairman Michael Murray, saying the original intention of the resolution was to see education workers on par with health and social service workers.
On Jan. 8 public health indicated that by spring the education sector would be on a priority list for vaccination against COVID-19. The board’s resolution, forwarded to the education ministry, serves as a request that the government keep that prioritization.
“I’m not sure if the original objective is implicit in this resolution, but given their intention to prioritize education workers, in spirit of understanding,” Murray said, the board opted to endorse public health’s decision rather than demand something different.
