This past week, Bishop’s University was able to provide supplies from its science labs and fine arts studios, including multiple cases of gloves, disposable jackets, N95 respirators, full face shields, and over one hundred litres of disinfectant, to the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS. These articles will be re-distributed to the front line COVID-19 medical staff and employees. The donation comes in the midst of a shortage of necessary hygiene and protective gear in clinical environments. On Sunday Canada’s chief public health officer, Theresa Tam, responded to reports some doctors and nurses are reusing their masks because of a shortage of protective gear by saying that some hospitals are trying to reduce the “burn rate’’ of protective masks and other equipment as the federal government seeks to obtain more.
Tam said such measures make sense to ensure masks and other needed resources are not wasted before more can be obtained. Published in the Monday, March 30 edition of The Record.
