ShazamFest launches eclectic 2019 lineup
ShazamFest’s 2019 lineup was launched at A Pizza restaurant in Sherbrooke last Wednesday. Various performers who will be participating in the festival’s programme attended the launch to help give the community a preview of what is to come next July. (Photo : Emilie Hackett)

By Emilie Hackett, Special to the Record – What started as a self-described backyard party at Ziv Przytyk’s family farm in 2006 has exponentially grown into ShazamFest, a prominent independent alternative festival that hosts up to 2,000 people every year. Przytyk unveiled the 14th edition’s lineup at his new restaurant, A Pizza, in Sherbrooke on Wednesday, May 8. From July 11 to 14, Barnston West will be the home of the Eastern Townships’ most eccentric festival yet. Headliners include Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire, an alternative rock band from Moncton, New Brunswick, Afrikana Soul Sister, an afrobeat formation from Montreal, The Souljazz Orchestra, from Ottawa and Susie Arioli, who was nominated for three Juno awards and won a Félix Award for Jazz Album of the Year at Gala de l’ADISQ.  Over two dozen acts will be presented throughout the weekend. “We started building a new stage last year. This year it’ll be covered with a roof and more structure. It’s made out of beaten earth and has a really cool cement-like structure where you can sit and watch the shows,” said Pryztyk.
