Sherbrooke adopts bylaw to prohibit single-use shopping bags

The City Council has adopted a new by-law prohibiting the use of single-use shopping bags in Sherbrooke businesses. The new regulations will come into effect on Earth Day, April 22, 2020.
This ban applies to petroleum-derived plastic shopping bags, various biodegradable and oxodegradable bags and compostable bags currently used by approximately 1,500 businesses.
This bylaw is the first step in a strategy to reduce single-use items. See full story in the Wednesday, Nov. 6 edition of The Record.
