Sherbrooke claims caution with one per cent tax increase

By drawing on the emergency support of the federal and provincial governments, the City of Sherbrooke limited its proposed tax increase for the year 2021 to one percent in the case of the average single-family home.
The details of what Mayor Steve Lussier called a “responsible budget in a time of pandemic,” were presented to media on Monday afternoon in advance of an evening meeting to vote on whether or not to adopt the document.
“For our 2021 operating budget, we have been cautious,” the mayor said, citing the unexpected challenges brought about by the coming of the pandemic in the springtime as sources of unforeseen costs and loss of revenue.
