Sherbrooke Elementary gets a taste of Mexico

Lunch was a little different at Sherbrooke Elementary School on Thursday, having been prepared by a team of five Mexican students studying in the area through the Eastern Townships School Board’s International Student Program.
Marie-Michèle Dorais, Homestay coordinator for the ETSB explained that the activity was planned in part to help build community between the five students, three of whom are studying at Alexander Galt Regional High School while the other two are in the sixth grade at SES.
“It makes sense to let them know they’re not alone,” the coordinator said, pointing out that although the international students have extracurricular activities together about once a month, it can be isolating to be separated from anyone who speaks your mother tongue by grade level or school. The students who prepared Thursday’s lunch are in grade six, and secondary levels three, four, and five.
