Third-grader Lylou St-Pierre was named the champion of Sherbrooke Elementary School’s first ever “Lis avec moi” reading competition last week. Organized by the school’s French teachers as a part of a larger, province-wide program, the competition challenged third and fourth grade students to try to be the best, most engaging, out-loud reader in their class. “The teachers are saying it’s the best project they’ve ever done,” said SES Principal Nicole Carrière, pointing out that even before the panel of seven teachers and administrators faced the difficult task of judging the skills of eight finalists last Thursday, the different French instructors were stuck by how engaged and motivated their students were by the reading challenge.
