Approximately 200 Sherbrooke firefighters and their numerous long-time collaborators celebrated their 79th annual toy distribution last Saturday. After filling up 27 delivery vehicles donated by local companies, the volunteers were served a traditional Christmas meal prepared by firefighters before heading out with enough toys for 1,000 children from 600 deserving Sherbrooke-area families. Representatives for Sherbrooke from municipal, provincial and federal governments, as well as retired Sherbrooke firefighter Michel Lessard, whose father started the toy campaign in 1940, were also on hand to extend their appreciation for this annual show of generosity.
