Sherbrooke group protests against CAQ immigration, religious symbol bills

A gathering of people from the group that calls itself “Le collectif Ensemble avec les personnes migrantes contre le racisme,” or “the collective together with migrant people against racism,” held a demonstration in front of Sherbrooke’s courthouse on Sunday to voice their ongoing opposition to the Coalition Avenir Quebec’s Bill 9, on immigration, and Bill 21, on religious symbols. “We have a responsibility to oppose these bills,” said group spokesperson Guillaume Manningham, calling the government’s proposed bills irrational, discriminatory, and the complete opposite of what is needed in modern society. “An attack against anyone among us is an attack against the entire population,” he added. “When the CAQ attacks religious and cultural minorities, they also attack the kind of society in which we want to live.” See full story in the Monday, June 10 edition of The Record.
