Following the news that downtown Sherbrooke’s “Wellington sur mer” urban oasis will not be returning this summer, two local groups are banding together to demonstrate their support for more pedestrian-friendly spaces in the city. From noon to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 3, representatives of La coalition étudiante pour un virage environnemental et social de l’Université de Sherbrooke (CEVES – U de S), the Université de Sherbrooke’s student environmentalism group, and LocoMotion, a citizens’ car-sharing group made up of residents who live on or near London Street, plan to ‘occupy’ the section of Wellington Street North between Albert and Meadow Streets where the park has existed for the last two years.
