On March 5, 2020, 24-year-old Sherbrooke resident William Rainville was arrested after being stopped by RCMP while driving in Dundee, Quebec, a rural community on the Canada/US border. During the arrest, authorities seized a total of 249 disassembled handguns.
The guns were in multiple hockey bags in the vehicle and an attached trailer according to the RCMP. Although they were disassembled, the Glock P80 handguns are still illegal and treated as such. According to the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST) who were on the scene, “All the parts necessary to make the weapons operational were present.”
“The seizing of a large number of firearms intended for the illegal market helps ensure that they don’t end up in the hands of those with bad intentions,” read an RCMP statement.
