Sercovie, a non-profit organization that supports seniors and people with loss of autonomy, partnered with Saint-François MNA Geneviève Hébert to deliver Valentine’s Day themed cookies over the weekend.
“Putting your heart to work and making good cookies to bring happiness to seniors and their caregivers makes for a happy Valentine’s Day,” said Hébert.
Sercovie volunteers took part in the Une douceur pour le cœur des aînés project, preparing more than 6,400 cookies for seniors’ residences and the non-profit Meals on Wheels services in the area. According to a press release, more than 3,200 seniors and employees got treats.
“This period has been difficult for the elderly, they are more isolated than ever because of covid. They’re more anxious, so this is a reminder that we’re thinking of them,” Demers said in an interview with The Record.
The non-profit, established in 1973, promotes home care for seniors but it has recently taken a financial hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Demers said the facility has been closed for a while now, including its popular cafeteria.
