Student associations from all over Quebec went on strike Tuesday to honour the 10th anniversary of the Maple Spring, a student movement against provincial tuition fee hikes that took over Montreal in 2012, and reignite the conversation around free education.

Cégep de Sherbrooke Student Association Coordinator Hugo Forget was on hand for the demonstration in Montreal on Tuesday. He told The Record that there were about 70 Sherbrooke students in attendance at Place du Canada in the city’s downtown core.

“Free education is still the objective and we’re not there yet. It’s an important objective for society to have access to free universal education, and it’s still not a reality, so we’re out once again to call out the government,” said Forget, who was wearing a red square on his chest.
