The Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra(OSS) announced its lineup of concerts for the 2019-2020 season on Wednesday, celebrating the fact that next year will mark the orchestra’s 80th anniversary. Set to take place between October 5, 2019, and April 30, 2020, the anniversary season will offer five performances in its “Grands concerts” series as well as an additional three in its new “symphonic pop” collection. “The board asked me to make every concert an event because of the 80th anniversary,” said Artistic Director and Conductor Stéphane Laforest, before outlining a plan that involves a 250th birthday tribute to Beethoven, a concert focused on the greatest hits of the ballet, a concert highlighting the music of The Beatles, and the 80th anniversary gala, among others.
