Shortcuts and signage raise safety concerns at Lennoxville borough council

Howard Street resident Janice Vaudry was at the Lennoxville Borough Council meeting on Tuesday evening to follow up on a concern she expressed at the May meeting about people using residential streets like Academy, Warren, and John-Wilson as shortcuts to get around the corner of Queen and College. Vaudry had previously submitted a request that the city install signage warning drivers to be careful of children in the neighbourhood, but came to this week’s meeting with a response from the city stating that no signs would be installed. “They didn’t suggest anything,” Vaudry said. “All they said was, “we can’t do this,” and I find that a non-answer.” The resident pointed out that there are a large number of families with young children living on the streets that are being used as shortcuts and said that she sees it as only a matter of time before a child is hit by a speeding driver.
