By Matthew McCully – On Monday afternoon, the weather conditions were just right along Route 143 to create natural snow balls in fields, known as snow rollers.
The Record was contacted by Arthur Cheal, who lives on the 143. Cheal was amazed to look outside his window and see thousands of snow balls of various sizes formed across his fields. At 86-years-old, Cheal said this was only the second time in his life he had seen snow rollers in the area. While they have since been covered with more snow and will soon be melted, some of the balls, produced by the perfect combination of temperature, precipitation and wind, measured several inches in diameter.
