Snyder welds aluminum into gold

Local welders and fitters in training of the Estrie region put their knowledge, skills, and competencies to the test this weekend in a competition to promote trades.

On Feb. 24 the Campus Brome-Missisquoi hosted the Olympiades Regional in Welding and Fitting. Eight students participating in the welding and fitting program represented the four vocational centres of the Estrie region. The candidates were tasked with having to complete four projects according to specific requirements to demonstrate various procedures used in the trade of welding and fitting.

“They had to weld and create in aluminum and stainless steel. Each project was timed and judged by great prestigious gentlemen in the field,” said the Assistant Director of CBM’s Vocational Training Centre, Lisa Payne.

Projects ranged from 45 minutes to as much as 2 hours in length.
