Someone has a story to tell…

By Taylor McClure, Special to The Record

Everyone has a story to tell, there is no doubt about that, but have you ever thought about becoming a storyteller? Well, there is a storytelling group right here in Lennoxville called the Townships Tellers, who perform individually and together at various festivals and events throughout the area. The Record had the chance to speak to Ann Rothfels, who is in charge of the Townships Tellers, and she filled us in on her career and just what storytelling is all about. Storytelling wasn’t something that was always on Rothfels’ radar. She studied at Bishop’s University in the School of Education and was planning on pursuing her Master’s degree when she came across a storytelling course that was being offered. “I was like a student looking for an easy course.” From there, her love for storytelling was developed and continues to grow. While working as a teacher, her experience with storytelling shone through her work. “I did a lot of storytelling in the schools that I worked in. I did seasonal storytelling like on Halloween and Christmas.” She also explained how storytelling helped her students who struggled in the academic setting. “We are reaching students who are not reacting in the academic world but they respond to storytelling.” See full story in the Thursday, Sept. 19 edition of The Record.
