Stanstead Township fire hall back on the table

The Régie intermunicipale de prévention et de protection incendie Memphrémagog Est recently announced an investment plan of $11 million for fire halls in the region over the next six years.
The money will be used to revamp, re-supply, or completely rebuild fire halls in the Régie’s dominion, which represents 10 municipalities. This includes Stanstead Township, where a borrowing by-law referendum for a new fire hall project was just quashed by residents.
Residents voted against the town’s plans to construct a new building due to high costs- $1.9 million- and what they deemed an unnecessary multifunctional room. Stanstead Township Mayor Francine Markwell said the Régie’s investment was already in the works.
