Students protest financial insecurity and climate change

Despite on-and-off flurries of snow and strong winds, roughly 100 students from the Cégep de Sherbrooke marched through the city on Thursday afternoon, voicing their concerns about environmental negligence and financial instability.
The Association étudiante du Cégep de Sherbrooke (AECS) led the demonstration, sporting a massive banner and asking what future exists for students without financial and climate security. The mobilization also landed on Earth Day.
AECS member Elliot Bélanger gave a passionate speech outside Sherbrooke’s town hall. He is also part of the student association’s environmental committee. The 18-year-old told The Record that students are anxious and he wants the government to take responsibility.
