An affordable housing project that has been in the works in Sutton for nearly two decades is close to entering its construction phase after the town’s municipal council formalized the donation of a plot of land on Monday.
The land is located on Principale Sud Street, and it was acquired by Sutton in 2018 for $100,000 from Grace Church. The town wanted to address the growing need for low-income housing. The project will see two buildings with 18 housing units built sometime next year.
“It is a very important project for us because where we live, our economy is based on tourism, and as you know, and it’s no surprise I’m sure, there is an acute shortage of affordable housing in Sutton, which is directly affecting the tourism industry,” said Mayor Michel Lafrance.
