The Fédération des syndicats de l’enseignement (FSE), and the Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers (QPAT) have voted in favour of accepting the provincial government’s sectorial settlement proposal, ending a year-long negotiation dispute.
The proposal offers a salary increase to new teachers and a five per cent bump to teachers already at the top of the pay scale by the end of 2022. However, according to QPAT President Heidi Yetman, it does not address working conditions.
“I think teachers just wanted to say, ‘yes’ to salary, that being said, a lot of the teachers during the assembly got up and said, ‘how is this helping our workload? how is this helping our working conditions?’ and I have to agree with them,” she said.
