In 1977, concerned dairy farmers of the Coaticook region started a festival to strengthen the struggling dairy industry in the area. They wanted to promote the region as one of the highest quality in terms of milk and dairy products. The primary goal was to promote all different types of dairy products. The festival played a major role in stabilizing the dairy industry in Coaticook and the area became known as the “milk basin” of Canada.
