After 52 years as a hairdresser in Lennoxville, Rose Marie Gaulin is hanging up her scissors and retiring.
“I wanted to end on a high note,” Gaulin told The Record on Wednesday, working alongside longtime partner Nancy Suitor to clean up and renovate the Salon Rose Marie on Parkdale Street, where she has worked for nearly four decades.
“When I started I was 17 years old, just out of school,” the retired hairdresser said, explaining that she always felt more inclined to hands-on jobs than anything academic. “I told my dad I wanted to work as a mechanic or in construction,” she laughed, sharing that after he shot down both of those ideas, neither of which was known for being very friendly to women in the 1970s, she offered hairdressing as an alternative.
