On Monday the Conseil de la Culture de l’Estrie unveiled the winners of its 2019 arts and culture prizes, including one for the Théâtre des Petites Lanternes’s (TPL) “Rivers of Lights” project in the “cultural development” area. TPL had been nominated alongside the Axile dance company and Rurart, a project which seeks to bring contemporary art to rural environments.
In its announcement of the winners the Conseil de la Culture highlights the festival of homemade lanterns and community-based storytelling as “a little bit crazy, but so inspiring,” as well as a big contributor to the artistic and cultural environment of the region.
Asked about the acknowledgement on Tuesday, TPL Executive and co-Artistic Director Kristelle Holliday shared that she wasn’t even aware of how much the award meant to her until the moment it was being announced.
