Townshippers’ take a position on Bill 21

The Townshippers’ Association has joined the growing list of groups that are voicing opposition to the Provincial Government’s proposed Bill 21 on state secularism. In a brief shared with The Record this week, the Association insists that Bill 21 be withdrawn, calling the proposed measures a step backwards for members of Quebec’s diverse religious communities and for its minorities in general. “Townshippers’ Association is compelled to react and highlight issues and concerns as they may apply to Quebec’s diverse English-speaking minority language communities,” reads the beginning of the brief put out by the association. “It is our considered opinion that Bill 21 is not a measure that will enhance the values and personal freedoms already enshrined in both the Canadian and Quebec Charters of Rights and Freedoms.” See full story in the Thursday, April 11 edition of The Record.
