This past weekend marked the start of the week surrounding Remembrance Day and saw a number of ceremonies take place across the Eastern Townships as a result.
In Lennoxville more than 100 people gathered around the Veteran’s Park beside the borough office on Sunday morning. In unseasonably warm temperatures they carried out their acts of remembrance, led by Linda Caron of the Army, Navy Air Force Veterans in Canada Unit 318 with the spiritual support of Patrice Gregoire from the Catholic Archdiocese and Ron Coughlin on behalf of Lennoxville United Church.
Other ceremonies are planned in communities such as Richmond, Georgeville, Magog and Cookshire on Remembrance Day itself, this coming Friday. Hatley will be holding its commemoration on Saturday Nov. 12 and both Sherbrooke and Ayer’s Cliff have commemorations planned for next Sunday, Nov. 13.
