The Province of Quebec reported 718 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of people infected to 436,084 with 5,897 active cases. The number of deaths linked to the virus remained unchanged at 11,548, and the number of hospitalizations decreased by five to 195, with 47 people in intensive care.
The number of active cases in the Eastern Townships increased to 663, with eight hopitalizations, one of whom was in intensive care. The region reported 161 new cases over Monday and Tuesday of this week alone. There were no new deaths in the region, but the regional healthcare administration reported 42 active outbreaks across the territory and confirmed cases among the students or staff of 52 different schools.
